A Bookcase Headboard

A Bookcase Headboard Turn a bookcase into a headboard.   A wide bookcase like this is the perfect size to move behind a full-sized mattress. "There is just enough room to get storage on either side," says Atlanta DIYer and stylist Jo Torrijos, who blogs at A Simpler Design.



Chalk Paint Cover-up The freebie bookcase out of a friend was functional and perfect for a DIY redo. Jo Torrijos just moved the mattress in the front of the bookcase, but it still had some comfort in its new role as a headboard.



New Spot in the Room Pillows provide a soft buffer between you and a bookcase headboard. They can also introduce pattern and color. "With the inclusion of an extra long body pillow, it softened the surface well," says Jo Torrijos, an Atlanta DIY blogger and stylist. "Plus, if you're anything like me, you will need half a dozen pillows on your bed to make a cushioned oasis."  



Adding Comfort When couples unite furniture, occasionally major pieces, like a bed, have to be freshened up. Atlantan Amanda Macy Hall, who blogs about home decor and DIY jobs, transformed a queen cherry sleigh bed that belonged to her husband, Josh, with upholstery. She used a inexpensive drop cloth and a roster of brass decorative nails. "I really like the look of the drop-cloth, a gorgeous all-natural colour with subtle feel, and the nailheads bring the added design that will help to tie it to the rest of our room."



Sleigh Bed Redo For her DIY headboard undertaking, Atlanta homeowner Amanda Macy Hall and her husband, Josh, cut a bit of medium-thick foam and stuck it to their existing cherry wood headboard using spray adhesive. When the adhesive set, they sprayed the front of the foam using the glue and wrapped the headboard using the big pre-washed fall cloth. They pulled it tight and created crisp corners, like when wrap a present. Utilizing super strong fabric glue held the seams and corners in place, she says. "This was a remarkably inexpensive job that was fast and easy," she states.  



Drop Cloth DIY Though DIYer Dena Stormer used new materials with this headboard, how she completed it gives it a vintage, thrifted aesthetic. She used wood panels to produce the 6-foot-by-4-foot headboard that's massive enough to match her king-sized mattress. For an extra touch, she included 1-by-2s into the edges.



Thrifty Headboard To get a distressed finish, DIYer Dena Stormer painted her wood headboard a semi-gloss white and coated it. The pillows and pillow shams were DIYed.



Vintage Vibe Before, the area was reminiscent of a college dorm room. "The bed is over 13 years old," says Yuni Min, a DIY blogger in metro Atlanta who bought the mattress at a chain store when she was wed. By painting the bed and walls, rearranging furniture and incorporating a couple of tasteful finds from garage sales and discount home decor shops, Min dramatically transformed the area in a tasteful bedroom.



Primed for a Redo In this photograph, DIY blogger Yuni Min demonstrates how you can completely remake your space without costing too much, simply by refinishing and painting. "If you're on a budget, then try out some easy DIY changes using paint, and it can really update the furniture completely," says Min, who blogs at Enjoy Your Abode. Min used Sherwin-Williams Pure White for the bed and updated the rest of the furniture with Velvet Finishes paint by Kellie Smith, gold spray paint and golden Rub-n-Buff wax metallic finish.



Power of Paint Go cabin chic with this rustic custom headboard undertaking. The DIY design builds thin 1-by-3-inch strips of walnut wood in a chevron pattern to make a woodsy focal point for your sleep area.



Rustic Chic Headboards do not need to be hard or uncomfortable, and for smaller spaces, it is sometimes better to not have a proper one at all. "For smaller spaces or temples, I enjoy putting a bed in a corner and having plenty of throw cushions as a 'headboard' so the mattress can behave as both a lounge/sofa option and as a mattress for guests," says Atlanta design blogger Jo Torrijos.



Mod Nook Buy pillows to match the colour of your walls and combine them with other accent and patterned pillows with that color to create a unique and comfortable design you won't need to leave. "It is unbelievably comfortable, and I spend a lot of time reading and listening to audio in this spot," states Jo Torrijos, an Atlanta design blogger.



Patterned Buffer To create a exceptional headboard, Karen Cooper, an Atlanta DIY blogger, trimmed two old wooden doors to fit the size of a daybed in her guest bedroom.



Repurposed Doors After cutting and cleaning two old wooden doors to style a one-of-a-kind headboard, Karen Cooper, a DIY blogger from Atlanta, painted the headboard in DecoArt New Life chalky finish paint.



Seeing the Possible A unique headboard created from two classic wooden doors accentuates the lines within this bedroom design and creates a stylish corner to get a space-saving daybed. The green color (New Life by DecoArt) selected by DIYer Karen Cooper brings attention to the headboard and contrasts with the blue wall without overpowering the eye.  



The Reveal A burlap canopy and bed hanging exudes casual countryside style and enriches a brand new four-poster bed. Susan Sully, author of Past Current: Living with Heirlooms and Antiques, which includes the home of architect Norman Askins, states accessories such as the brass candlestick and hurricane lamp are inexpensive and intensify the style of the space.



Beautiful Burlap An oversized abstract painting can function as an artistic headboard. It's a trick that's particularly effective in a space like this one, which has a comprehensive feature wall with trim, says Kristen Yonson, co-founder of SwatchPop.



Artistic Touch For a twist on a bookcase headboard, try a storage room. The perpendicular DIY project is a creative idea having a commanding presence in a bedroom.



Storage and Headboard in One Steal from everywhere in your home. Atlanta DIYer and stylist Jo Torrijos utilized a cotton striped tablecloth to recover a headboard which was a colorful chevron pattern. The outcome is a beach-inspired guest bedroom.



From Dining Room to Bedroom Karen Cooper, a DIY blogger from Atlanta, employed a stencil to make a simple, but elegant vertical design behind this simple headboard without having to spend a lot of money. The darker colour of this design pops from the light background in the wall without even competing with the patterned pillows on the bed.

The vintage hats add personality and texture to the walls, and help divide the more linear lines in the room.



Functional Furniture The handsome, nine-drawer dresser comprises a top drawer drop front along with a walnut bottom on the lower drawers.



Easy Living The master bedroom opens across in the home's bunk room, a flexible space with bunk beds for sleeping, a desk area and selection of magazines and books for reading.



Singular Design Considering that the master bedroom is part of a package, it was created to feel like a separate escape from the remainder of the house with design details such as the gallery wall that help the room feel curated and unique.



High Contrast The high contrast of white and black and the ideal mixture of cozy textures gives this master bedroom an appealing sense of style.
