Before: Unfinished Basement

Before: Unfinished Basement Growing NHL star Alex Steen and his wife Sofie recently transferred into a large house in the suburbs with their infant son and two dogs. They were able to get things arranged upstairs nevertheless have a massive basement in dire need of care.

Following: Multifunctional Space By blending rustic materials and components with modern furnishings and fittings, this formerly uninspired room was transformed to an all-star basement that is stylish, comfy. Candice layouts a multifunctional space with three different areas: a lounge zone, a TV and press zone along with a work out zone. Since the space only has two small windows, she creates the illusion of space with floor-to-ceiling curtains in contemporary floral and light silk.

Before: Purple Playroom Sean and Cara's new home is beginning to feel just like home, but it's one big space that needs some major work: a dull, outdated and purple cellar their daughters use as a playroom. They want to move the kids' toys elsewhere and flip this eyesore of a cellar into a modern lounge trendy enough for entertaining guests.

Following: Sporty Hangout Candice paints the walls a cool lotion and divides the space into two zones: a bar area and a sports place. The bar area has a lovely refrigerator, a slim-line electrical fireplace and a gorgeous vanilla quartz pub using accompanying stools for lounging. From the sports area, Candice use dark wood and glass cabinets to house all of the couple's sporting memorabilia.

Before: Dark and Dated Teri and Kevin recently transferred into a funky 1960's home. But, their home had just one very big problem: a gigantic basement that was dark, dingy and probably hadn't seen a sign of redesign in 40 years.

Following: Chalet Chic Candice utilizes wood cladding and rock veneer to upgrade the space and include natural components that would typically appear at a ski lodge. The walls are painted an eggplant shade that provides an earthy atmosphere, while tactile fabrics, like chenilles and velvets, are blended with warm colors of rust, wheat and brown to create a cozy atmosphere.

Before: Toy Overload Debbie, Paul and their three sons live in a beautiful home steps away from a great stretch of shore, where they love to spend as much time as you can. However, when the weather is bad, the household is at a loss for things to do. To make matters worse, their principal entertainment space at home was a dim, toy-filled basement that wasn't conducive to any sort of rest or relaxation.

Following: Beach-Inspired Getaway To make a beach-like space inspired by sand, sea and sky, Candice paints the walls a light sea-green paint and selects a color palette to match in organic grass, warm coral, breezy sand and dreamy sky-blue. She also designs a multifunctional floor plan in order to accommodate the family's several needs, such as a playroom, entertainment area, guest retreat, bar/snack room and a workplace.

Before: Flashback Basement Warren's basement is a great space that confronts the family pool and the adjoining golf course. But it's among those chambers in his largely renovated 1960s house that is still in its first state. He desires the space to become welcoming for his guests and a hangout for the household.

After: Modern Retreat By modernizing the dated features, lightening and brightening the space, and incorporating new fixtures and finishes, Candice generates the ideal family refuge. Candice upgrades the paneling with wood battens placed at a grid-like pattern across the paneling and paints it a pale putty colour with a tinge of green, while the ceiling is painted a neutral color with a touch of blue. The distance has to be multifunctional, so that she divides it up into three big regions: a relaxation/entertainment area, a bar area and an office space. Distressed hardwood flooring and comfortable chairs finish this comfy family hangout.

Before: No Laughing Matter Comedian Gerry's basement is dark, underutilized, obsolete and painted a shocking shade of green, as a result of his lone design attempt. He wants the room to be warm, comfortable and contemporary, a space where his family can relax while he's on the road, and at which he can entertain friends when he's at home.

Following: Sleek Modern Hangout Candice lightens the area with a neutral-colored paint and divides up the room into two main zones: a sofa area and a TV/media area. The lounge area is reminiscent of an old English pub, where the focal point is a fresh fireplace elevation which includes gorgeous earth-toned glass tiles and can be flanked with horizontal strips of dark wood rustic floor. In the media area, a luscious plum-colored sectional with an abundance of pillows in the area's various colours, a creamy leather ottoman and a gorgeous area rug make an inviting space for viewing TV.

Before: Cluttered Chaos Philip and Linda were desperate to get a little storage, structure and style within their chaotic basement. Having the overload of sports equipment, art supplies and assignments, the family rec room is cluttered and totally disorganized.

Following: Artistic Inspiration By adding lots of color, plenty of organization plus some personal touches, the previously chaotic cellar is transformed into a vibrant and playful family room. Using Linda's artwork for inspiration, Candice decides on a colour palette of gold wheat, russet red and calming sage. The artwork also becomes the new fireplace surround by transferring it onto vinyl wallpaper and hanging along with this brick. To satisfy the family's needs, she divides the area into three areas: a storage zone for the children, an art gallery for mother and a lounge place for dad.

Before: Empty Basement Toby and her family live in a newly remodeled home that's a designer's dream. The house includes a French decorating design, selected because the family adores France and travels there at every opportunity. However, there was one place in the home that was sadly out of place: the basement, which was mostly used as a storage area.

After: French Fabulous For the ideal mix of colours and fabrics, Candice uses traditional black and white checks, stripes and toiles and combines them up with candy apple red fabrics and bold geometrics. Three of the walls have been painted a softer color of cream to coincide with the terra-cotta floor tiles, while the focal wall with cabinetry and display shelving features faux red leather background.

Before: Outdated and Bland Tina and Kulbir need their cramped and obsolete basement to function within an efficient home office, a rehearsal space for budding musician Kulbir and his band mates, sleeping quarters for both overnight guests and also a TV and lounge area for the whole family.

Following: Colorful and Inspiring By blending modern finishes and fixtures, exotic colors and fabrics, and functional cabinetry and furniture, this room has become ready for work, play, sleep and endless music rehearsals. The walls get two different treatments: some regions are painted a peppery, reddish-orange colour, while the remainder are papered in a thick, textured grass cloth. For the flooring, Candice utilizes a hard-wearing vinyl that looks like hardwood, but is more durable and ideal for basements.

Before: Unused Basement Pamela has a large room in the basement which regularly serves as a dumping ground for unsightly mess, therefore her daughters convince her to turn it into a room where they could kick back, watch films and dance.

Following: Multipurpose Space To produce an atmosphere of cozy familiarity with a touch of drama, Candice paints the ceiling and walls a sultry charcoal gray and utilizes a similar colour for the carpet. The lighting, which can be an absolute requirement for dark-colored chambers, is layered across the entire space with ceiling decoration lights and lower in-wall fittings to light the floor during a movie.
